What it's for

Four thousand PSI with heat behind it. This is the machine that turns down the fewest jobs, which is why it is the most common first hot water purchase for a contractor who has outgrown cold water work.

Heat matters more than most people expect. Grease, oil, protein and road film all release at temperature in a way they simply do not when cold — you can stand there at 4,000 PSI cold and burnish a surface without cleaning it. Once you have run a hot machine on an equipment yard or a restaurant pad you stop arguing about this.

At 5.5 GPM it will drive a 24 inch surface cleaner comfortably. If your work is mostly large flatwork, look at the 8.5 GPM unit instead — you will cover ground faster.

From the shop bench

The Dieter's Industrial shop team — we service these machines in Lewisberry.

What we see on the bench

  • The first hot water purchase for a growing crew4,000 PSI with heat means grease, oil and protein release at temperature instead of getting polished around cold. It is the most common first hot water buy after a crew outgrows cold work — the PSI vs. GPM decision is the one most buyers miss.
  • Winter is when the bench fills upA skid that sits outside over a hard freeze takes the classic five-point hit: pump manifold, unloader, coil, reel and fittings, tank. What cracks when a unit freezes is exactly what we see in November, and it is all preventable.
  • Pump vs. burner comes down to symptomsIf it loses heat it is the burner side; if it loses pressure it is the pump. The two are diagnosed separately — burner troubleshooting for heat, when a pump rebuild pays for pressure.

Questions buyers ask

Can it drive a 24 inch surface cleaner?
At 5.5 GPM it runs a 24 inch deck comfortably; our 24 inch units from Whisper Wash want roughly that flow. If most of your work is large flatwork the extra flow of the 8.5 GPM unit may get the job done faster. The nozzle sizing guide shows how to match the deck to the machine.
How often does the pump need attention?
Pumps wear from grit, hard water and running dry, not from age. When pressure fades or the pump starts to knock, a rebuild is often cheaper than a replacement, and we do it in-house — see when a rebuild pays and the repair page.
